As I approach the two-year mark since deciding to do my MSc Entrepreneurship at Trinity College Dublin, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has transpired and where things currently stand. The past two years have been a non-stop adventure, and the journey is far from over.
In July 2022, after nearly six years at S-RM, I made the decision to leave when I was offered a scholarship to Trinity Business School. This marked the beginning of a year of profound learning at an amazing institution, surrounded by inspiring classmates from around the world. Learning from professors and working professionals across Europe, and collaborating with colleagues from various countries, broadened my perspective and enriched my master's experience.
Returning to study was an interesting experience and provided a fresh perspective to my undergraduate and honours. My work experience meant that the content was not just theoretical, as I could draw on work experiences to consider the practical applications and real-world implications of new entrepreneurship frameworks and theories. This perspective meant that while graduating with Distinction validated my hard work, the knowledge gained and new potentialities presented to me were my core motivation.
Social entrepreneurship intrigued me from the outset, exploring how entrepreneurial principles can be applied in the for-impact space to uncover new opportunities or amplify the impact of existing organisations. This inspiration led me to start my own business, Charting Paths. Through Charting Paths, I have been able to apply my learnings and previous experience to support South African for-impact businesses. With over 280,000 registered NPOs, the for-impact sector is crucial in addressing inequality and service gaps in South Africa. As such, I believe that helping these organisations increase their impact and attract more funding can significantly benefit our country.
Starting my own venture has been challenging but incredibly rewarding and working with donors and organisations achieving amazing impact has been inspiring. To be part of continuing and growing that impact, in collaboration with the leaders and founders of these organisations, is truly gratifying. I am excited for the next steps on this journey and to see what can be achieved.
